I'm not often completely unsure what to bid (I usually have a choice of losing options) but was non-plussed by this one. Partner opens 1D. You hold

I tried 2C, hoping for partner to bid some number of NTs (It must be better played from his side). But no, he came back with 2D!
Now what? 3NT can't be right, can it? I have 2 unguarded suits and I am arranging to play the contract from the wrong side. 4D might be past the best contract, 3C and 3D aren't forcing (are they?). So should I try 2H or 2S? If so which? I tried 2S, partner raised to 3S and I could think of nothing better than 5D, which made but is worse than 3NT. In retrospect I think 2H may be better, if partner raises to 3H I can try 3S (Fourth suit) which I couldn't do in my own sequence.
Any views?

Its a nasty hand mainly because you want to "right-side" it. Whichever route I took, I'd be wanting partner to play it, in diamonds if necessary. I'd tend to bid a Baron 2N if available to try to get the level right but would want to end up with partner playing it in diamonds.
3NT and cross your fingers? hope partners 11 points are in the right places.
wow, grahame, that's some gamble. You could be going off with 5D cold. Even 6D might have some play if partner has a club fit. Or has he denied that given that he has had to rebid a Jack high suit?Isn't it worth investigating?
Isn't a good hand for inverted minors
Bert, you're right! Hadn't spotted that. Must discuss with partner....
